... Blimey! My short film has only been on the internet for a few days and yet yesterday I received an offer of work from somebody who had seen it! They want to pay me for tuition on how to make promotional films for their product. If it wasn't for the fact that I know them and their company, I would think they were having me on...
Of course, I'm not going to tell them I've got no idea about film-making. I have, after all, been studying the subject enthusiastically since I was an antisocial 13 year-old with a TV and video player in his bedroom and who asked for blank video cassettes every Christmas (for new people, that's when all the really good films used to premiere on terrestrial telly).
Besides, I have made several films before of various genres (mockumentary, spoof, animation, arthouse, short films, not so short films) and believe that experience counts for alot. However, when negotiating my fee, I may have to focus on the positive critique I received from the film-maker and curator Peter Lewis, for my short video piece, which even now he still simply and affectionately refers to as 'did you ever do anything with that rocking chair film?'
